Helping others feels good. But, did you know that it could make you healthier? According to a study released by the Corporation for National and Community Service, points to a significant connection between the volunteering and good health including:
- Greater life satisfaction
- Lower rates of depression
- Increased life expectancy
To reap the benefits of good health, volunteers should volunteer with two or more organizations and spend 100 hours, of volunteering per year. In this study, age mattered. Those 60 and older experience the greatest benefits.
A bit younger and more career oriented? Volunteering can help you gain valuable skills and add to your career experience. It can also have a big payoff. According to a Canadian study, volunteers earn about 7 percent higher incomes than non-volunteers.
